St John Timberhill: a gateway to medieval Norwich and beyond

October 29, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

In collaboration with Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery and Norfolk Museums Service, we’re delighted to present ‘St John Timberhill: a gateway to medieval Norwich and beyond’ – a special afternoon of talks by experts in the field, exploring the relationship of our parish church to Norwich Castle.

The current urban layout around St John the Baptist, Timberhill disguises the church’s prominent position within the city of Norwich, but with a burial ground existing at the present site since before the Norman Conquest, our churchyard and church represent a microcosm of the city’s medieval and modern history.

With talks from Dr Helen Lunnon, Fr Richard Stanton, Dr Kori Lea Filípek, and Andrew Ferrara, this symposium on the eve of our Dedication Festival provides an opportunity to learn more about the history of this Norwich parish church and its relation to its neighbourhood.  It’s part of the £15m Norwich Castle: Royal Palace Reborn project, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Everyone is welcome.  Refreshments will be served.
