Music in Country Churches : Music at Cley

July 26, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

$10 – $35

Music in Country Churches arranges series of live concerts in rural churches of exceptional beauty and interest to raise funds for their repair and maintenance. It was set up as a charitable trust in 1989 with the active support of HRH The Prince of Wales, who is still our very enthusiastic patron.

Music in Country Churches will be at Cley-next-the-Sea with two concerts in St Margaret’s Church on 26th and 27th July to help the fundraising drive to carry out urgent repairs on neighbouring church of St Mary’s, Wiveton.

The strings of the English Chamber Orchestra will present the first evening’s concert, ‘Serenades for the Summer’, featuring serenades by Tchaikovsky, Elgar and Wirén. The ECO will be joined by Craig Ogden for the world premiere of a guitar concerto composed by William Lovelady.

The music the following day begins with an afternoon recital in St Mary’s, Wiveton, presented by talented young local performers playing the organ, violin, and flute. That evening, we’ll be back in St Margaret’s, Cley, for a concert by the acclaimed choir “Tenebrae”, conducted by Nigel Short.

There will be drinks before both evening concerts and the afternoon recital. The full programmes, timings, and details of performers are available on our website (see below).
