Chris will advise the bishops of the diocese about rural issues and policy, make links with rural organisations and champion the rural church across Norfolk and Waveney.

Bishop Graham said:

“I am delighted that The Revd Chris Ellis has agreed to be my adviser for rural affairs. He brings much experience with him, especially as the rector of a rural multi-parish benefice, and I know that he will share his knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others as we seek to live our life together under God within the context of the rural areas in the Diocese.”

Chris said:

I am delighted to accept the invitation to be the Bishop’s Adviser for Rural Affairs. My first experience of ‘church’ was in a small, rural community where my family and I were nurtured in the faith and I ultimately heard God’s call to ordination. Having served in urban and sub-urban parishes, I was drawn back to rural ministry eight years ago by my passion to serve in small communities where there are so many opportunities to engage with people and to ‘know and be known’.

“As Bishop’s Adviser, I intend to champion the cause of all who minister in rural communities, both lay and ordained; to encourage the mission and ministry of our small church communities and to engage with other organisations who strive to support those who experience the joys and the challenges of living in rural areas.

“I look forward to having conversations with colleagues and parishioners and learning more about how the Christian faith is being lived out across the more rural parts of the Diocese of Norwich.”
